9988 Wireless Media Server

The Alcatel-Lucent 9988 Wireless Media Server (WMS) is a new IP-based product that meets the future needs of telecommunications service providers. The WMS provides a compact, high capacity platform for hosting IP-bearer adaptation services, such as packet transcoding, packet domain acoustic echo cancellation, audio and video conferencing, announcements and other related media adaptation services.

For the CDMA network operator, the WMS product delivery provides an evolution path beyond the 9281 Packet Switch that lowers future CAPEX and OPEX, and allows support of 1X CDMA applications to 2020, or beyond. Within the Alcatel-Lucent CDMA Mobile Switching Center (MSC), the 9988 WMS is deployed with the 9290 Mobility Manager’s CMS (CDMA Mobility Server) configuration. The WMS may be used to cap or replace the packet switch within the 1X CDMA MSC.

The 9988 WMS is built upon Alcatel-Lucent’s ATCAv2 hardware, Linux operating system and WCNP middleware, and delivered in the UNAC cabinet.
