Virtualized Mobility Manager

The Alcatel-Lucent Virtualized Mobility Manager (VMM) performs the 3GPP mobility and session-management control functions within the evolved packet core (EPC) network. The VMM delivers the flexibility, performance, elastic scale, and reliability you need to meet increasing network signaling loads due to the rise in mobile users, connected devices, and network applications.

Mobile operators want the EPC to quickly add subscriber and bandwidth capacity as service demands change. The VMM is optimized to run on commercial x86-based hardware and uses our highly reliable, field-proven 9471 Wireless Mobility Manager (WMM) software as a common code base. With this design, new mobility management functions are easily deployed or adjusted to wherever they are needed.

With a common element management system and a feature set identical to the 9471 WMM (MME/SGSN), the VMM provides service and operations consistency. It also offers a seamless transition path to network functions virtualization (NFV) and software defined networking (SDN).
