Extruded pellets have a very porous inner structure. The liquid added is retained in the pores of this internal structure.

Batch coating – with or without vacuum

Vertical mixing is known as a gentle way of mixing ingredients. ANDRITZ has adapted vertical technology to vacuum coating, which avoids damage to the product. The vertical transportation screw at the top of the mixing vessel provides the ideal medium for uniform application of liquids or powders. The objective of vacuum coating is to force liquids through the outer layer and deep into the porous area of the pellet by means of a pressure differential.

Coating can be carried out with up to 15 different ingredient liquids with a span of 0.5-45% oil or fat.

A slowly rotating drum built into a housing is typically used for coating with one or two different ingredient liquids with a span of 2-20% oil or fat.
