What Are RSS Feeds

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds are news feeds which allow you to see when websites have added new content. They allow you to get the latest headlines in one place, as soon as they’re published, without having to visit the website the news has been taken from.

How do I start using feeds?

Modern web browser

Most modern browsers, including Firefox, Internet Explorer and Chrome automatically check for feeds when you visit a website. When your browser has found an RSS feed, it will display the orange RSS icon. Many of these browsers allow you to add RSS feeds as a browser favourite or bookmark folder and will automatically update them with the latest content.

Web-based news readers check for feeds and will display any new articles that have been added. They take into consideration your RSS feed subscriptions from any desktop computer, so are useful if you want to access feeds from multiple computers or devices.

Desktop news reader

Some email software allows you to read RSS feeds. You can also download dedicated news reader software to use on your computer.
