The challenge: A large copper mine in the United States was challenged by extreme wear on their truck dump that feeds the primary crusher. They needed to increase the life of the apron feeder liners since replacing them meant extensive downtime, which meant lost productivity.

The mine was using 2” thick AR500, which lasted 4-6 weeks as liners. Not only was wear damage on the liner face, but fine material accumulated under the bottom edge and wore away the width of the liner. This caused increased material spillage.

The solution: Kennametal Tricon replaced the AR500 liners with 2” Tri-Braze plates.

The reward: The first Tri-Braze liners lasted 16 weeks. At the customer’s request, we added wear arc 400 overlay to the bottom edge and face to combat the fines. This set of liners lasted 23 weeks.
