VOLCANOLOGY AND GEOLOGICAL HAZARDS
VOLCANOLOGY
- In situ geological investigations of volcanic terrains aimed towards mining and geothermal exploration.
- Specialized geological mapping of volcanic areas.
- Evaluation of geological hazards in active volcanic areas.
- Chronostratigraphy and petrology of volcanic systems.
- Determination and characterization of textures, physical properties, size and provenance of volcanic products.
- Applied physical volcanology courses, both theoretical and practical, in recent and ancient terrains.
- Sampling of volcanic units for geochronology, geochemistry etc.
GEOLOGICAL HAZARDS
- Volcanic hazards and their evaluation in both proximal and distal areas, including the effects of pyroclastic and detrital (e.g. lahars) flows, lava flows, pyroclastic fall deposits, landslides, etc.
|
- Landslide hazards, such as mud or detrital flows, lahar generation, flows associated with the collapse of mine tips and tailings dams, landslides, rockfalls and avalanches.
