SupraMotion 3.0 – Automation Modules With Superconductivity

Superconductors have huge potential for industrial applications. They allow objects to be held in position and moved without contact – with low power consumption and completely without control technology for the bearing. The way they work without dust and wear is ideal for transporting objects whilst hovering in very clean environments in a protected manner. Even handling through walls is possible.

As the first provider of automation technology, Festo is researching this potential and will showcase three possible applications once again at Hannover Messe 2015.

Bearing and guiding on hovering rollers

The SupraCarrier shows how a flat workpiece carrier can be held in position and transported without contact on hovering magnetic rollers.

Transport on hovering conveyor shaft

The hovering conveyor shaft is made to rotate without contact. In this way it can transport individual metal rings up an incline of 40 degrees via its thread.
