Environmental Study In Kenya

Kenya’s Ministry of Energy has contracted SMEC to undertake a Sectoral Environmental Impact Assessment (SEIA) of the country’s energy sector.

Financed by the World Bank, the study will provide decision-makers with all relevant socio-environmental information before a final investment decision and it will also facilitate subsequent implementation of the program. The results of the SEIA will serve as a basis for the preparation of future project-specific EIAs as required.Key project elements include bio-physical and socio-economic baseline data collection; a review of Kenya’s energy policy framework and decision making process; public consultation; environmental and social impact assessment; comparison of project alternatives; and preparation of an ‘action plan’ and management framework.
