SMEC was commissioned by Ports Australia, a group representing the leading 21 ports in Australia, to project manage the development of a Wharf Structures Condition Assessment Manual (WSCAM). The primary objective of the project was to develop an industry best practice for assessing and determining the condition of wharf structures. The goal is to adopt the manual in as many ports as possible, to standardise processes and to facilitate information sharing between Port Authorities. SMEC developed a condition assessment framework which takes into consideration the needs of various ports across Australia; determined industry best practice for assessing the condition of wharf structures; provided a support tool to assist in undertaking the assessment; incorporated feedback from asset consultant peers for the purpose of obtaining industry support; and provided training to participating ports.
