Johnson Controls’ Nick Consiglio pursues a lifelong mission to eliminate childhood cancer

For more than 30 years, Johnson Controls Automotive Experience supply chain logistics manager Nick Consiglio has been on a mission to eliminate childhood cancer. In 1981 he co-founded an organization called LRL (Leukemia, Research, Life, Inc.) to raise money for cancer research conducted at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and its affiliated institutions. The organization was renamed Kids Without Cancer in 2011.

Their goal each year is to raise $100,000 to get two new research projects started and keep them running to the point where the researchers are in a position to seek grants from larger organizations such as the National Cancer Institute.

A highly motivated volunteer

Nick’s motivation is highly personal. In 1979, his best friend’s son was diagnosed with leukemia, and with treatments not being as progressive back then, his friend’s son lost his battle with this disease. Nick made a promise at that time, saying: “I vowed that I would never give up until we found a cure.”
