Molds, casting ladles and ingots that endure permanent contact with molten metals most frequently degrade by dissolution in the molten metal. Build-up or surfacing filler metals must have then a very low chemical miscibility with the molten metal to prevent their closure and therefore to increase their longevity. For instance, tanks used for hot dip galvanizing process are often protected by special alloys against the molten metal.
