Reinforced Slab in Maimonides School
Problem to solve
Superior slab deformation due to the incorporation of louver concrete, weighing led to increased efforts, exceeding allowable stresses for which the slab was designed initially.
Solution
The skylights were removed to recover part of the deformation and cracks using high strength mortars and epoxy adhesive is injected.
Following this the bottom face of the slab using carbon fiber mats as shown in the image is reinforced. Thus is achieved restoring the original strength of the slab and prevent increased distortion.
The concrete skylights were replaced by others of stainless steel sheets, by minimizing the weight associated with this item.

Due to the proximity of the start date of classes, a quick solution is required. The works were carried out in a week. Elementa facilitated the comprehensive solution of crack injection and structural reinforcement.
The carbon fiber was then coated with plaster so the appearance of the tile was not affected.
