Ericsson Radio System is energy efficient to handle the mobile data traffic increases we expect by 2020 at the same energy use levels of today. The system includes new more energy-efficient radios at half the size and weight as well as the industry’s most powerful baseband that delivers twice the capacity and enables operators to capitalize on growing mobile broadband demand from consumers, businesses and the Internet of Things (IoT) to build their business as they evolve to 5G.

Global mobile data traffic is forecast to reach 25 Exabytes per month in 2020, driven by increased smartphone adoption among consumer and business users, the mobilization of enterprise applications, and developments in machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and the Internet of Things (IoT).
