Mineral Processing
About 75% of copper in Chile is produced in concentration plants where the ore is processed using comminution and flotation. Innovations and technological developments in energy efficiency and the optimisation of water resources are what characterise this sector of the industry. Conferences organised by Gecamin that pertain to this area include:
12th International Seminar on Paste and Thickened Tailings This seminar was initiated by the Australian Centre of Geomechanics of the University of Western Australia. It is held annually and the host country alternates between Australia, South Africa, Canada and Chile. The twelfth and most recent version was held in April 2009 in Viña del Mar and was organised by Gecamin and the Australian Centre of Geomechanics of the University of Western Australia. The technical programme included 31 presentations by authors representing 16 countries. Delegates from 25 mining companies were among the 308 participants who attended.
