Future Advanced Start-Stop vehicles extend Start-Stop functionality to capture energy from braking and reduce engine idling time.

Advanced Start-Stop vehicles help automakers meet future fuel efficiency regulations when combined with other efficiency improvements such as light-weighting or turbo charging. The technology enables increased fuel savings without major changes to the existing powertrain and electrical systems.

These vehicles use a dual battery system of 12-volt lithium-ion battery together with a 12-volt lead-acid battery. The 12-volt lithium-ion battery enables additional Start-Stop functionality such as coasting or electric boost, and supports more electrical loads. It primarily accepts and stores regenerative braking energy during vehicle deceleration, enabling greater power and load management capabilities. The 12-volt lead-acid battery is used to start the engine and power the lights, entertainment systems and general accessories.
