Introduction

The Paterson & Cooke Slump Calculator is used to determine yield stress of a non-Newtonian slurry by measuring the slump using a straight sided slump cylinder based on the following paper:

Pashias N, Boger DV, Summers J, Glenister DJ “A 50 Cent Rheometer for Yield Stress Measurement”, Journal of Rheology, Vol.40, No.6, 1179-1189, 1996.

Definitions

Mixture Density: the ratio of the mass of the mixture to the volume occupied by the mixture, expressed as kg per cubic metre.

Cylinder Height: The vertical height of the cylinder in mm.

Measured Slump: The measured height from the top of the cylinder to the top of the slumped material, expressed in mm.

How to use the toolkit

The input parameters required are the mixture density, cylinder height and slump. These can be entered in up to three columns.

Once all the inputs in a column have been entered, the yield stress is calculated for that column. If there is an error in one of the inputs a warning message will notify the user of the correct range of values required for a specific field.
