The exploitation of natural resources has been the traditional foundation of nations’ economies. The major issue that it presents is that natural resources are limited and demand has increased.

Currently, mining is facing multiple factors that impact production costs and thus their sustainability in the market, such as the reduction of mineral grade, projection of prices in the long-term, increased hardness of rocks (complexity of mineralogy), scarcity of water and energy, the geographic location of the deposits, increased total costs combined with strong variations in the prices of commodities, and socio-environmental pressures. The foregoing has created a scenario in which integrated and innovative solutions are welcome.
