Ranked by the World Health Organization as the 10th-highest cause of death worldwide, driving is also the main cause of death within our industry. Because our employees and third-party contractors drive roughly 50 million miles per month on every terrain and in every condition imaginable, Schlumberger takes a serious approach to driving safety.
Our latest standard for driving and journey management, released in November 2012, incorporates a complete rewrite of the previous standard. Using a risk-based approach, the new standard establishes how fundamental controls are applied based on the country driving risk level for field and non-field driving, and on operational risks. The new standard requires each country where we operate to establish country driving and journey management procedures along with driving safety cards for local implementation.
