What goes in must come out
There are four main exhaust ingredients that have negative effects on health and the environment: nitrogen oxides, particulates, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. For us at Volvo Trucks, the main focus is on cutting down nitrogen oxides and particulates. The past 20 years, we have managed to cut emissions of these substances from new trucks by 75 and 85 percent respectively. But we’re not done yet.
Euro 5-proofed
The emissions standards for trucks define the acceptable limit for exhaust emissions of new vehicles sold in the EU member states. The current standard Euro 5 means that a trucks’ diesel engine can exhaust a maximum of 2.0 grams of nitrogen oxide (NOX) per kWh and 0.02 grams of particulate matter (PM) per kWh. All engines available for the new Volvo FH live up to these standards.
