  • For example, the KIVCET flash smelting furnace was introduced in 1996. It captures and makes use of naturally occurring heat released during the oxidation of sulphur.
  • While greenhouse gas releases in 2006 were 6% higher than in 1990, GHG intensity (GHG releases per tonne of zinc and lead metal produced) improved by 32% over the same period.
  • Atmospheric emissions of lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic were reduced by over 95% in the last 15 years at Trail Operations.
  • In 2006, 2,191 tonnes of e-scrap were processed. Eventually, Trail expects to handle up to 20,000 tonnes of e-scrap, material that would otherwise go to landfills in western Canada and the United States.
  • Ferrous granules, once part of the waste stream at Trail, are now used in the production of ground slag cement and as an iron supplement in cement production.
