Program spurs new ideas and actions for sustainable growth

Sustainable growth is key to the success of Johnson Controls. Accordingly, in November 2012, the company launched a program globally to enhance the ability of director-level leaders to lead sustainable growth in their businesses. The program aptly named “ilead Growth” is the company’s first level-specific leadership development program. “Beyond overall development, ilead Growth addresses specific skills our directors need for success at Johnson Controls,” said John Greene, vice president of global learning and development.

A workshop where real work gets done

Participants attend a three-day workshop with leaders from all business units, during which they develop growth strategies and action plans for a fictitious green business. A computer simulation provides market data and background information on that company. Participants split off into teams of 4-6 individuals acting as senior executives for the simulated business.
