Rod Handling Safety

​This rod-handling trailer not only eliminates the hazards previously associated with adding and removing rods, it also moves the employee away from the operation and allows for greater productivity through faster rig moves.

The rod-handler was designed by Alpine Engineering and takes advantage of the Schramm T-130’s pivoting head. A system is mounted on the trailer that delivers the rods to a feed tray, which in turn presents the rod to the head. This system has been in place on four of our six Schramm T-130 drills and we recently invited Liberty Mutual, our Worker’s Compensation carrier, to perform a formal risk analysis of the new equipment. The final report is pending, but the initial review demonstrated a significant and demonstrable improvement in risk reduction.
