At regular intervals, power plants run their gas turbines for 3-5 days on diesel from their storage tanks to test their gas supply failure plans. Quite often, the diesel quality in the storage tank is not up to standard levels for use in the turbine, and when this is the case, the power plant has no other choice than to either replace or clean the diesel oil, both operations being very costly.

Diesel storage tanks are typically very large tanks of e.g. 1,000 m³ – 6,000 m³ and the diesel fuel typically contains large amounts of water, diesel bugs (microbial contamination) and particles, along with high levels of sodium and potassium.

Installing a can considerably reduce the cost, since the fuel can be cleaned and made ready for use when necessary. E.g. one pass of the oil through a CJCâ„¢ Filter Insert F can reduce the amount of water in the oil to 1/10 of what it was before filtration, and sodium and potassium levels can be decreased to below the recommended levels.
