In a steam power plant, the feeding pumps make sure that the process water is pumped to the boiler and recycled back to the system after the process. Unless the feeding pumps are working effectively, the energy generation can either not run or the cost of running on reserve pumps is very high. Therefore availability is the key in this particular system.

Typical sources of oil contamination in the feeding pumps are condensed water, particles and oil degradation products that are most often found in the gear oil. If not effectively removed, lifetime of the equipment can be dramatically reduced.

Depending on the level of water found in the oil, installing either a or can considerably reduce the cost of operation and extend the lifetime of components on a feeding pump, because it removes particles, oil degradation and water, maintaining clean oil in only one filter system.
