Abstract

While modularization is not new, the level of achievable offsite work has significantly increased using the 3rd Gen Modular Execution strategy. This execution model splits the project into process blocks and moves into designing modules that then drives the plot plan. Substantial advantages gained from using a 3rd Gen Modular Execution approach include:

• Reducing some bulk material quantities through a more compact plant layout realized by synergizing equipment and implementing a distributed controls philosophy,
• Maximum transfer of labor hours from a low-efficiency and high-cost field environment to higher-efficiency and lower-cost module fabrication yards,
• Reducing the time required and risk involved with completing this work on site, and
• Significantly reducing the footprint required for the facility thus benefitting the capital cost and environmental effect of the project.
