SMEC was engaged by the Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA) to develop asset management plans for critical transport infrastructure assets at the major sporting complex in Sydney, Australia. Following the closing of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, SOPA has acted as custodian of the park’s infrastructure assets, including all sporting, entertainment, commercial, tourist and transport facilities. As these assets matured, it became necessary to implement asset management, maintenance and stewardship processes. SMEC developed an asset management plan for all transport assets at the complex (including car parks and the Sydney Olympic Railway Station), incorporating energy efficiency, risk management and materials durability. SMEC’s asset management plan was based on the ISO:55000 Australian Standard for Asset Management. The framework presented a range of operational maintenance strategies and improvement actions for the park’s assets, addressing SOPA’s key organizational objectives.
