New concept helps reduce vehicle weight

Johnson Controls, a global leader in automotive seating systems and components, is striking out in a new direction when it comes to weight reduction in vehicle interiors with a seating concept that debuted at the International Motor Show (IAA) 2013 in Frankfurt. The company is focusing on simplifying adjustment of the length, height, and tilt of the seat. All of these can be altered to occupant requirements in just one movement thanks to innovative kinematics.“The ever-present need to develop new solutions to reduce weight in vehicles has given us the incentive to consider innovative ways of downsizing car seats as well,” said Heinz Voss, vice president Engineering, Product Group Metals & Mechanisms for Johnson Controls Automotive Seating.
