The agreement, which had been in place for eleven years, was just renewed for an additional five years. “We are happy to be part of the program’s success,” says Art Murdy, Manager, Major-Nuvumiut joint venture, “and we look forward to continuing to grow these partnerships.”

The program was a result of the Raglan Agreement signed between the Société Minière Raglan du Québec Ltée (today Xstrata Nickel Raglan Mine) and five Inuit partners, the Makivik Corporation and the two Inuit communities of Salluit and Kangiqsujuaq, supported by their respective landholding corporation (Qaqqalik LHC and Nunaturlik LHC). A key component of that agreement was to ensure that the Inuit beneficiaries directly enjoy the social and economic advantages throughout the active life of Raglan Mine.
