BioSigma has developed microbial consortia formed by species of acidophilic bacteria and arqueas. The organisms are selected based on their oxidation activity allowing the improvement of conventional bioleaching processes.

The microorganisms significantly accelerate not only the copper recovery from low grade refractory resources, but also the removal of impurities presented in the mineral concentrates. We have a collection of more than 70 isolated microorganisms, some of them patented to be used at industrial processes.

These microorganisms were isolated from different regions of Chile, from the Atacama Desert to the Andes range, including species that are naturally adapted to certain temperature (mesophiles and moderate termophiles), covering most of the more relevant environments for the development of biohydrometallurgical projects.
