As one of the world’s largest producers of zinc, Teck plays an important role in supplying zinc to meet the world’s infrastructure needs. We are also supporting zinc as an essential micronutrient to protect human health and as a soil additive that can significantly improve crop yields.
Zinc accounted for 27% of our business in 2014.
Our Zinc Operations
We are one of the world’s largest producers of zinc, primarily from our Red Dog mine in Alaska and Antamina mine in northern Peru. Our metallurgical complex in Trail, British Columbia is also one of the world’s largest integrated zinc and lead smelting and refining operations. In total, we produced 659,700 tonnes of zinc in concentrate while our Trail Operations produced 277,400 tonnes of refined zinc in 2014.
Our zinc portfolio also includes the Pend Oreille mine in Washington State, which was restarted in December of 2014.
